I believe people who are trolling Harshvardhan Kapoor on various social media outlets on his venting anger over Diljeet Dosanjh's Filmfare Best Male Debut award haven't even watched Mirzya. They just saw it's Box Office nos which were no doubt very disappointing but this was the film hogging all the limelight for better part of last couple of years. It's first trailer left everyone confounded but everyone believed that it's songs, acting and cinematography were outstanding. People were finding it mystical and then there was the presence of Rakesh Omprakash Mehra and Gulzar Saab with Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy helming it's wonderful lyrical journey. Everyone praised the acting of Saiyaami Kher and Harshvardhan too but when the film bombed big time at the BO, the same everyone got incensed with with everything that was earlier wonderful in it. Harshvardhan then got compared to her 'lesser-talented' sister who earlier in the year was unequivocally praised for her brave-heart performance in Neerja. And only a scintillating performance of Alia in Udta Punjab could have toppled her and that it did. So Sonam proved her mettle and she just like her brother took all the blame for the failing of Saanvaria when Ranbir Kapoor was also there in the film dancing with even towels off. So if even Ranbir and now Sonam can recuperate from such a low, why not Harshvardhan? And then his points are justified about these allegations against Filmfare and Diljeet? Even acting-wise, when the world went Gaga over Amir's physical transformation, it was Harshvardhan who made the first entry in this list in 2016. Diljeet just spoke Punjabi in a half-Punjabi film. Granted, Anil Kapoor is his father and he is now more famous than ever in India for his body of work but saying that Anil got his son and daughter their films is nonsense. Anil never had the aura of a superstar even in his heydays and when Khans arrived, he became all the more ineffective. So earning money was one thing, having a Salman Khan aura is another and that's why not he but Salman launched both Ranbir and Sonam in Saanvaria. So let me tell you all those who are trolling Harshvardhan for Mirzya, go and watch this film for once and then make your mind about him. And please also bear in mind, Diljeet has been a seasoned actor for Punjabi films and people buy Filmfare awards all the time......
It's really hard to switch on to a different language from the one you have constantly been tinkering with. I grew so accustomed to writing in Hindi in last few days that it started dawning on me that I might never be good again with my English. So this is a tester, ladies and gentlemen. Yesterday, one of my movie group friends, an American by nationality, questioned my fondness of documentaries. I specifically wrote in one of my columns that documentaries demand your unwavering attention and once you gave 'that' to them, you are rewarded much more handsomely than a proper, narrative, fictitious film. My reasoning for believing so is that a documentary is an experience of a creative process. It doesn't get made to 'entertain' you. They are there to reveal something to you. They teach you something. You get overwhelmed by them. 'Racing Extinction (2015)' was one such documentary. I watched it in last couple of days. I couldn't complete it in one ...
