हैंसी क्रोन्ये: एक असहाय, विवश खलनायक


इस कहानी से अभी वास्ता पड़ा, इसलिए अभी लिखना ही ज़रूरी है। शेक्सपियर ने 'हैमलेट' में लिखा है कि एक इंसान जोकि अच्छा है और हमेशा मुस्कुराता रहता है, वह तब भी खलनायक हो सकता है।

सन 2000 का मैच-फिक्सिंग प्रकरण अभी भी क्रिकेट दुनिया के सबसे बुरे वक्त की दास्ताँ है। दिल्ली पुलिस ने हर्शेल गिब्स, हेनरी विलियम्स और हैंसी क्रोन्ये को अजहरुद्दीन और अजय जडेजा के साथ चार्जशीट किया। सन 2018 चल रहा और आज की दिल्ली पुलिस की चार्जशीट में उस प्रकरण से सम्बंधित केवल एक क्रिकेटर का नाम है और वो है क्रोन्ये।

सन 2010 में ओवल के मैदान में अगर आमिर, सलमान बट और आसिफ स्पॉट फिक्सिंग वाले एपिसोड में पकड़े नहीं गए होते तो मैं दावे के साथ कह सकता हूँ कि यह मैच फिक्सिंग के जिन्न बिना क्रोन्ये के खुलासे के सामने आ ही नहीं सकता था। क्रोन्ये ने किंग्स कमीशन के सामने अपने कबूलनामे में बेबाकी से कहा था कि उन्हें पैसे की लत लग गयी थी यद्यपि एक सामान्य दाक्षिणी अफ्रीकी के तुलना में उनके पास दस गुना ज्यादा दौलत थी। अगर आप पैसा कमा रहे हैं तो आप उस लत से वाकिफ ज़रूर होंगे। मैं केवल 10 साल का था जब यह वाकया हुआ था और साउथ अफ्रीका से 2-0 से टेस्ट सीरीज हारने के बाद अज़हर को वनडे टीम की कप्तानी से हटाकर गाँगुली को कप्तान बनाया गया था। गाँगुली की कप्तानी में भारत ने अपनी पहली ही सीरीज में अफ्रीका को 3-2 से हराया था और मैं गाँगुली का बहुत बड़ा प्रशंसक होने के कारण बहुत खुश था लेकिन हफ्ते भर के अंदर ही फिक्सिंग की खबरें छन-छन के बाहर आनी शुरू हुईं और मुझे विश्वास है कि मेरे जैसे कई भारतीयों की खुशी उस समय काफूर हो गयी होगी। भारत अपने घर मे 12 साल बाद टेस्ट सीरीज हारा था और उसके बाद मिली यह जीत हमारे लिए बाम का काम कर रही थी लेकिन.....

खैर, क्रोन्ये की मैं आज भी बहुत इज़्ज़त करता हूँ और केवल इसलिए कि जैसे बाकी सभी खिलाड़ी अपने अपने देशों कानूनों की कमी निकालकर आज बेफिक्र घूम रहे, क्रोन्ये ने वह रास्ता नहीं अपनाया। इस पूरे प्रकरण के बाद भी वे अपनी टैक्टिकल ब्रिलियंस के कारण एक मल्टीनेशनल कारपोरेशन में कंसलटेंट के पद पर काम कर रहे थे और फिर एक तरह के सुखांत में ही वे इस प्रकरण का पटाक्षेप करके रुखसत हो लिए।

एक बार एक डिनर पार्टी में क्रोन्ये बिना स्पीकर नोट्स के ही शेक्सपियर की हैमलेट को 40 मिनट तक बिना रुके हुए शानदार तरीके से उद्धृत किये। उन्हें उस दिन नहीं पता था कि उस हैमलेट का विलेन एक दिन उन्हें ही घोषित किया जाएगा!!!

Love and Friendship

Friendship is an aspect of life that’s not controlled by its beholders. Ideal friendships, well they are the things of past now. Many a times we have seen our parents or their parents talking about their old great friends and how amusingly they tell us about their bonding, the moments they spent together and we see a ‘priceless’ twinkle in their eyes…..that’s something which is missing from modern friendships. Film Essay: Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2

It must be said that when I became routinely aware of the existence of Hollywood films, the one name that always crossed my path and eyes was 'Kill Bill'. It wasn't very hard to guess it's genre from its poster...Uma Thurman in a yellow spandex suit with a 'killer-looking' sword were very much indicating that it was an action film and we Indians LOVE action picchhers . But I wouldn't watch it, not until a week ago and the reason was that I never quite liked those 'action picchers'. It's very UnIndian to say but I was always more into 'Drama' and other genres of movies that unsurprisingly brought me to Hollywood and World Cinema doors. And Kill Bill I had to watch it because of two people that I respect and admire very much from movie fraternity, viz. Martin Scorsese and Roger Ebert. As much as these two people were fond of each other, I was doubly in awe of them. One a master filmmaker and other, the most popular film critic of the world....
